Sailors Shape the Future of Navy Uniforms

September 3, 2026, Scientists, designers, engineers and textile experts from the Navy Exchange Service Command’s Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility worked with nearly 80 female Sailors during a five-day fit evaluation Aug 17-21, 2026, onboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story and at NEX Norfolk, Virginia. The research team collected measurement data and used cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to evaluate prototype uniforms for concept of fit, functional design and accuracy of the size prediction.

June 8, 2026, Space Force to test new mess dress uniform this fall.

When Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman addressed the graduating class of the Air Force Weapons School on June 13, he quietly put on display the new Space Force mess dress uniform.

The new black-tie formal garb will begin wear tests this fall, a Department of the Air Force spokesperson told Air & Space Forces Magazine. Volunteers for the wear tests recently completed fittings.

The applicable NSNs for this procurement is 8415-01-623-2466(s), PGC 03982. The Trunks, APFU shall conform to the requirements of GL/PD 13-06D pattern dated 02 February 2016. DLA Troop Support intends to award a 36-month contract consisting of three (3) 12-month price tier periods. The minimum purchase quantity is 92,000 pairs. Navy Uniform Updates to Navy Working Uniform and WOOL Service Dress Blues

SDB Wear. Effective immediately, wear of the SDB Jacket or Eisenhower jacket for E-7 and above in office buildings or workspaces is optional throughout the fleet. This allows walking within the confines of a building without the SDB Jacket or Eisenhower jacket covering the white shirt and tie. Additionally, the black garrison cap is authorized as an acceptable substitute for the combination cover for wear with the SDB coat or Eisenhower jacket. This will allow individuals flexibility what to wear when working in an office setting while wearing SDBs. Additionally, it allows an individual to determine which cover makes the most sense for the situation.

NWU Type III Wear in the Pentagon. In coordination with the Acting Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV), effective 4 May 2026, NWU Type III wear is authorized in the Pentagon. This change is being made to ensure the Navy is aligned with the uniforms being worn in the Pentagon by other members of the Joint Force and in an effort to continue to instill a warrior ethos in our Sailors.
